The London X-ray Consulting Group (LXCG) was born as the faculty teaching the annual Short Course in Modern X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry at Western University (Canada). This course was established by Dr. Charlie Wu in 1990 under the direction of Professors James Willis and Andy Duncan from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. In 2005, Willis and Duncan retired and the responsibility for the course was taken over by the members of London X-ray Consulting Group (LXCG) namely, Mike Hinds, Maggi Loubser, Alexander Seyfarth, and Charlie Wu.
The course has been taught by the individuals named above with Dr. Bruno Vrebos of PANalytical Inc. (PANalytical has donated his time to participate in week 2 teaching on a year to year basis). In addition, other XRF vendors have sponsored personnel to assist on some lectures on a rotating yearly basis.
Dr. Wu, who was the course coordinator, retired at the end of 2016 and the long term continuation of Western University as venue is not certain.
This gave birth to the London X-ray Consulting Group (LXCG) as a vehicle for the continuation of this annual Short Course in Modern X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry, even outside Western University, but also as a forum to expand the services provided by the group.
